J.W JOINERY

Professional Joiner & Carpenter in Charente

How It Works

  • The process begins with an initial consultation, ideally at the property where the work is to be carried out, to discuss goals, budget and any other specific requirements you may have.
  • If applicable, we will provide sketches and/or 3D renderings before asking you to sign off on the final design. (This is generally only provided for bespoke projects).
  • We will guide you through the selection of materials and finishes to ensure that you have the best and most cost-effective option for your project.
  • Once you have signed off on any drawings and project specifications (materials, finishes etc) we will create a detailed budget estimate.
  • If we are providing a bespoke service, we will work to bring your design to life with precision and attention to detail. If we are providing an off-the-shelf option, we will place the order with our supplier.
  • We'll handle all aspects of the installation process ensuring the work is completed to the highest standard.

Would have no hesitation in recommending James
We are delighted with the outcome of our new oak French doors and the external shutters and would have no hesitation in recommending James. It was a pleasure to have a project started and completed on time and on budget.
We have found James to be an excellent tradesman
James has completed various projects for us, at both our business addresses, over several years since 2014. These have included all aspects of interior construction - replacement floors, erection of interior walls, door hanging as well as general painting both interior and exterior.

We have found James to be an excellent tradesman, who pays scrupulous attention to detail, preparation and the quality of finished work. He has been consistently reliable in estimating, timekeeping and working to a budget. He can always be relied on to leave working areas clean and tidy at the end of each day as well as on finishing the job. As a result, we have continually called him for repair and maintenance jobs of all sizes.

We have no hesitation in recommending James who will provide excellent value for money in any projects that he quotes for.
Highly recommended
The iPad stand proved a great success. It serves its purpose very well, it looks good and is beautifully made. The service from James was friendly, efficient and prompt. Highly recommended.
Gave us a very competitive quote
James was recommended to us by our neighbours when we found ourselves in difficulties trying to employ someone to undertake the restoration of our shutters.

James visited the house, undertook measurements of the shutters and gave us a very competitive quote

Once agreed we had the confidence to let him get on with it as we had to return to UK.
He is a maître artisan.
I wanted 2 bespoke oak doors and frames for the rebated stone openings of my 200+-year-old house. James’ website immediately clicked with me, the tone of the site and the illustrations of his work. Within a week he was here measuring up for a quote. In conversation, I asked pertinent questions and James satisfied me he knew his business, an excellent listener and alert to my ideas. The quote for the 2 doors was well within the budget I allowed for quality work. The doors and frames were delivered and fitted in good time and on time. On day 1 James attended with his apprentice (!), his cheerful father Gary. Day 2 James came alone. Later he attended for final adjustments to the locks, doors and frames. I cannot recommend James Worrall highly enough, the quality of the doors and the hardware, stainless steel hinges, exceptional full-length security door locks and handles, are all top quality and add a real touch of class to the house. Don't let James' youth and affable, low-key manner fool you. He is a maître artisan.
A very high standard
Really impressed with your work, it is of a very high standard.
He was well worth the wait!
After many years of putting up with a kitchen that wasn't working for me and which I had completely fallen out of love with. Last Christmas a blessing in disguise finally happened. A problem with the kitchen sink plumbing finally manifested itself, which turned out to be more serious than at first thought. This was my chance to get the kitchen changed. I knew exactly what I wanted, but I knew it would have to be individually made. I searched the 'net and found exactly what I wanted and all I needed now was an artisan to construct it for me. And this is where James came in.... I contacted him and sent him my ideas and waited for his response. He responded and made an appointment to come and see what I wanted. There was quite a long wait for James to construct the kitchen because he was so busy, but he was well worth the wait! I finally got my new kitchen in August and I am absolutely delighted with it. I wanted a rustic type farmhouse kitchen - wooden units, no doors, slatted shelves, one deep drawer in each unit and a Butler/Belfast sink. My kitchen is perfect with no wasted space (as was not the case with my old one). I have everything to hand and it is now a pleasure to work in. His workmanship is excellent and it wasn't without its complications, because we have a small "U"-shaped kitchen space, but everything just slotted into place perfectly and it looks brilliant. We have already booked James for another job next May

What materials do you use?

We carefully select materials based on factors such as project specifications, budget constraints, environmental considerations and client preferences. However, the main materials we work with are softwoods and hardwoods.

Softwood

  • The main softwood that we use is pine. Valued for their affordability, versatility and ease of use.
  • Often chosen for projects where cost-effectiveness is a priority or on projects that have the intention of being painted or stained.

Hardwood

  • The main hardwood that we use is oak (or chestnut for flooring). In rare occurrences, we will also offer sipo, an exotic hardwood known for its durability.

Specific Materials

  • With staircases provided by our trusted suppliers we can offer metal handrails, providing style and safety.
  • We may recommend engineered wood products or composite materials for outdoor applications or for flooring in certain environments, where durability and weather resistance are essential.

Are the products supplied or handmade?

We can offer both supplied and handmade options for most projects.

We partner with trusted suppliers to offer cost-effective options for shutters, staircases, flooring and kitchens.

How far do you travel?

We generally work in the Charente, Haute Vienne, Vienne and Limousin areas. However, we have accepted projects in the Deux-Sevres, Charente Maritime, Gironde, The Loire Valley, Dordogne and Indre areas. If you are further afield, please feel free to contact us as we are always interested in a potential project.
